 May News from the Principal

May 4th is a great day to recognize the ladies who get to school at the crack of dawn to make our children a hot breakfast and prepare for lunch.  May 4th is School Lunch Hero Day!



  • Teacher Appreciation Week is May 7th-11th.  It would be wonderful if you and your family would write a few words of appreciation to your child’s teacher for their dedication towards making a difference.  Good teachers are becoming harder and harder to find so we want to keep the good ones we have and let them know how special they are to us.


  • Friday, May 4th, we will be doing our final Aimsweb benchmarking at South Elementary.  It’s a great opportunity for us to see the academic growth your child has made this year.


  • The high school band will be stopping by on the morning of May 10th to perform and inspire our students with their musical talent.


  • May 11th is a fun-filled day in Colchester where children will visit the middle school Entrepreneur Day store to see their projects, interact with animals at Ag Day and participate in a farm themed Field Day with our PE staff leading the way.  Students will be provided a sack lunch at South Elementary that day to provide greater ease with feeding so many in a limited amount of time.


  • May 16th:  Historical Illinois Presentation at 9:45 a.m. to learn about the past 200 years we’ve been a state.


  • May 18th:  Heather McMeekan will be entertaining our children with a variety of kites and various other fun facts relating to this art form.


  • May 22nd :  South Elementary Black Belt party…. all students who have earned a black belt in Kicking It Math Facts will go to the park with Ms. Edholm.


  • May 23rd:  SIP Day, dismissal at 12:20


  • May 24rd:  South Elementary Awards Ceremony.  Join us at 8:15 a.m. to recognize student achievement and community volunteers.


  • May 24th:  Last day of school!
